Aug 15, 2017 · In this study, the effects of biomass raw materials on particle and gaseous emissions and ash behavior were studied in a real-world operating 500 kW reciprocating grate boiler. The studied fuels were pellets, which consisted of softwood stem, bark, peat and various mixtures of these materials.
In general, the pellets quality depends on the properties of the raw material (feedstock) -biomass type, moisture content and particle size -, and quality management of the manufacturing process

In coal/ biomass cofiring, noncombustible material in the fuel such as fly ash particles and salt vapors may be deposited on wall surfaces in a boiler. When wall surface temperatures are lower than local gas temperatures, the alkali salt vapors may be condensed to form submicron droplets/particles in the boundary layer close to the walls and get deposited on the wall surfaces.
