Sep 18, 2020 · All boilers require control of three basic elements to operate safely and efficiently: water flow, air flow and fuel flow. The heat exchange surfaces for hot water boilers must be in contact with water to prevent the heat exchange surface from overheating.

Boiler Fundamentals and Best Practices
Open the vent valve on top of the boiler, open the makeup water valve, and fill the boiler. When the boiler is filled, close the vent valve. Begin on the lowest floor of the building and open the vent on each radiator or convector, one at a time, until the water flows out. Close the vent.
Sep 21, 2003 · Most boilers are configured for flow from the bottom return to the top supply. The location of the high limit control on the majority of boilers is near the top supply tapping. Piping the boiler with the return in the top supply tapping will wash the high limit with cooler return water and cause an override of the desired high limit temperature.
3.1.3 Hot water boilers may be equipped with an air vent pipe on the top of the boiler. Plumb this connection to the expansion tank or install an automatic air vent on this pipe. 3.1.4 The direction of flow through hot water boilers and water heaters must be from the inlet to the outlet (IE: bottom to top). Do not reverse these connections.
Which direction should my circulator pump Flow
Direction of tankless hot water coil leaks into vs. out of a heating boiler or indirect water heater tank. This article explains conditions under which the direction of a hot water coil leak can reverse from its expected behavior and how that condition may be detected. We explain that an indirect or hidden coil leak usually increases boiler temperature but when building water supply pressure is lost the leak can reverse and may contaminate the building potable water piping or water
