With the boiler pressure at a minimum of 75% of the safety valve set pressure, the safety valve try lever is lifted to wide open position. Steam is discharged for 5 sec to 10 sec. The try lever is released, and the disk should snap to the closed position against the valve seat. Malfunctioning safety valves must be replaced as soon as possible.
2.1.1 The following procedures must be followed carefully before putting the boiler in operation. Failure to do so will present severe hazards to equipment, operating personnel and building occupants. 2.1.2 ADJUST PILOT BURNER Carefully follow the Lighting Instructions in the boiler manual for the proper adjustment of the pilot burner.
